What is BBPS (now Bharat Connect)?
BBPS (Bharat Bill Payment System), rebranded as Bharat Connect, is India's interoperable bill-payment network. It is run by NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd (NBBL). You can pay electricity, gas, DTH, FASTag, loan EMI and many other bills from any participating app or bank, with a standard receipt and complaint process.

How it works
Billers (utilities, lenders, insurers) register once with a Biller Operating Unit. Customer apps and banks join as Customer Operating Units. The central unit, NBBL, connects both sides. The customer fetches the bill, pays by any mode (UPI, cards, net banking), and gets a standard reference number for tracking and complaints.

UPI is a payment method. BBPS is a bill-presentment and payment network that can use UPI to pay. For a lender, being a BBPS biller means borrowers can pay EMIs from any app they already use, with confirmation flowing back to the lender.
