DPD and SMA calculator

Enter when an EMI was due and see how many days past due (DPD) it is, and which RBI special mention account (SMA) bucket that puts the loan in.

RBI's SMA buckets

BucketPrincipal or interest overdue for
SMA-01 to 30 days
SMA-131 to 60 days
SMA-261 to 90 days
NPAmore than 90 days

These are RBI's buckets for term loans under its Prudential Framework for Resolution of Stressed Assets (7 June 2019). Cash-credit and overdraft accounts are classified differently. Lenders flag a loan on its oldest unpaid instalment, and RBI's November 2021 clarification means an NPA is upgraded only once all arrears are cleared, not just the latest EMI.

Common questions

Does a late EMI show up on my credit report?

Yes. Lenders report repayment status to the credit bureaus, so days past due appear in your credit history and affect your score.

Which EMI decides the bucket?

The oldest one still unpaid. Paying this month’s EMI doesn’t clear an older overdue one; the days keep counting from the earliest missed due date.

For collection teams: Ziya calls borrowers in each bucket in their own language, and Loan Management tracks DPD daily.
